Trijicon

Other than that - I’m very thankful Trijicon made this scope. It’s a perfect blend of precision and speed. It’s eye relief, size, and FOV make for a fast & compact general purpose optic. For 10-300 yard shooting, this is in my opinion, the perfect ACOG. For shooting under 10 yards, it seems like it’d serve me well - I may toss some Bulter Creek Flip Caps on this one for an occluded option since the construction will allow for it! Trijicon, the caps will make the ACOG Scope Coat a thing of the past.

Something always kept me from hanging onto an ACOG. I feel the TA33R8 was made just for me!

If you’re looking for an ACOG - don’t overlook this guy. It is in my opinion the ultimate 10-300 yard SHTF ACOG for a 14.5"- 16" AR15. It’s truly an amazing piece of glass.

Magpul

went shooting today at Hernando Sportsman in Brooksville, FL. Chris Costa who runs the training division from MagPul was in the lane next to me. He had a couple of tricked out SBR’s one MagPul lower, the other on a KAC platform, and .308 with a can. His kids were with him and he was teaching them to shoot. They looked like they were about 10 and had no problem hitting a 12"x14" steel plate at 100 yrds.

Eotech

Quote direct from the EOTech website’s product description of the 517:

"Additionally, a portion of the front base has been raised to allow the sight to fit over standard hand guards found on many M-4 or M-16 style weapons"

From the looks of it, it might not slide all the way up to your forward-most slot, but the fact that the buttons are on the side of the unit will allow you to butt the magnifier mount right up to the back of the sight, which may create enough room. If all else fails, I’d buy everything from a vendor with a good return policy so you’re not stuck with something if it doesn’t work.

Pocket Holster

I carry my G23 (same size as the 19) in a Galco gun holsters SkyOps. I want to try a C-TAC or M-TAC but this one works fine for me. I like the fact that just the edges of the Y-hook show. If you dont know what to look for, cowboy holsters will never be

After spending $140 and waiting six months, I received a High-Noon "Closing Argument" for my G26 (I know, not the same as you’re talking about, but High-noon follows a similar pattern for their IWB Shoulder holsters). Thank god for their no-questions-asked return policy. It felt like I was carrying a brick in my Pocket Holster. I shipped that POS back ASAP, and bought an Pistol Magazine. It was $80 and it came in a week. It is so comfortable I forget it’s there, and it conceals nicely.

One thing I’ll give High-Noon: they use metal belt clips. If the MTAC had metal belt clips, it would be perfect. For $25, the Bare Asset may get the job done cheaply, but the High-noon Shoulder holster is subpar, IMO.

Glock 36 magazines

own a G20, 21, 22, & 23, developed the Glock 36 magazines, and have a huge amount of experience with Glocks and I doubt that he’d need any of those because:

1st - He doesn’t need and may not want a ported barrel because the soot from firing it blackens his front sight with one.

2nd - Dual recoil springs in a G35 are both un-necessary and unwise as they upset the slide timing.

3rd - He already has extended controls because the Glock 36 magazine comes stock with a 3.5# connector, an extended Slide Stop Lever, and an extended Magazine Catch.

What he needs is mags and ammo and if he doesn’t have them yet, a good set of night sights. I recommend TruGlo TFOs. They are a bit spendy at $100/set but worth every penny.

BTW: THIS is a truly ‘Tricked Out Glock’. It cost too much but for a 1st ever G20/21L, its worth every penny to me.

Para ordnance p14 magazines

I waited weeks for this gun to come in. I even ordered an extra 50 dollar mag right off the bat. It finally arrives and I do a good fluff and buff and head off to the range with 300 rounds of various .Para ordnance p14 magazines and FMJs. This 900+ dollar gun is a total jam-o-matic. I am bummed and pretty pissed. I would expect this performance from a Taurus but not Para ordnance p14 magazine. I almost got the baby eagle .45 instead and right now Im wishing I did. After the first trip out, yes I did strip it down and detail clean it and all that. Next trip out, same thing. Totally unreliable. I am going to call Para customer service tomorrow and see what they say. Until then two thumbs down on this one.

Glock 19 Magazine

o what if he does? Does that make him a freak or deserve a wow? Does that make him less of a man or something? Did I miss the memo that shows how they proved hand size directly relates to intelligence or penis size? What about women and kids, are they not worthy of shooting Glock 19 Magazine because their hands aren’t big enough either?

I just don’t understand the stupid comments that posted everytime this subject comes up. Such as..

And why the hell not? There is absolutely nothing wrong with replaceable grip inserts. Show me an example of even one polymer framed pistol with replaceable grip inserts that have had issues related to that feature? You can’t. You just don’t like it because you personally don’t need it. Well goody gum drops for you but there are a lot of people who do.

There is nothing wrong with replaceable grip inserts and it is stupid for any polymer pistol in this day and age not to have them. The problem is people like you who have no problems with the Glocks the way they are seem to think that if they work for you, they should work for everybody and if it doesn’t tough shit.

Well that’s not the way it works. Most companies have already caught on to that and whether you like it or not, Glock 19 Magazines will eventually have to wake up and smell that coffee too. Mark my words, it will happen. Maybe not this year or next but it is coming.

Don’t fret though, all you haters who think the Gen2 or 3 frames are perfection should rejoice because just think about all of the cheap Gen2 and 3 frames that will hit the market when everybody starts trading up the the Gen4 (or 5?) frames!

Eotech

Has anybody been able to mount the newer Eotech 517 or 557 over the bulky M4 handguard (like on the Colt 6920) and be able to fit a 3X magnifier and BUIS too? I want to be able to swing a 3x magnifier to the side and be able to use my ARMS low profile BUIS. It seems like now that the new Eotech 517 is designed to sit over that bulky M4 handguard, I ought to be able to buy a swing-to-the-side mount that also allows me to use my low profile BUIS too.

Concealment Holsters

The Pistol holster shouldn’t matter in that situation. It’s a nylon strap that is adjusted to be comfortable for you. The only difference would be if you had one that had elastic to allow stretching for extra room when you kneeled and your thigh muscle flexed gun holsters.

Foubus is junk IMO!!!

They should all be recalled. Put a trainer in a concealment holster tighten up the belt and have someone reach over and smack the holster and watch it pop off the belt. I was told this and tried it, it comes off pretty dang easy. The plactic seems to break right at the rivets each time. I agree with coltshorty45 on this one.

I dunno. I have a regular roto-holster for my Glock Magazines and my 1911. I like em a lot for range use. They slip on and off my belt really easily (they’re the paddle style), and function well. I had some Uncle Mike’s kydex ones, and they always hung on my belt when trying to remove them. They’re a decent, cheap range Shoulder holsters, IMO.

I had a SIG 229, went to the shop to get a Safariland Holsters, so I decided on a Fobus, I opened the packege, inserted the pistol, and then I could’nt get the gun out of the damned thing… The dealer had to use a dremel to remove the gun, and in the process scratch the picc out of my SIG.. But he took care of that, I did’nt like the sig anyways, but I will never even think of another Fobus Holsters pos.

Magpul

Got to see Chris run his bolt action .308 with the Magpul. He was fast as lighting and hit the steel plate every time. Got to watch him unload a couple mags on the the steel plate at an very fast pace, he didn’t miss once. Guy is a great shot and very down to earth. Got to talk to him for a few minutes in between target changes.

He was pretty cool and down to earth

The viable bit of warm and snuggly insurance company AIG has been spun-off and dubbed “Chartis”. A bad name? Well, yes. But that is just what they needed. Sometimes a terrible name is the perfect name. In today’s Insurance Journal, a so-called naming expert spouts off:

According to AIG, Chartis derives from the Greek word for map, which the company said underscores the company’s 90-year history as a global insurance pioneer.

While AIG is apparently not alone in liking the name, is Chartis a name to remember?

Perhaps not, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

One naming expert says the new corporate moniker is neither memorable nor snappy — and in that regard the name Chartis is perfect for what AIG wants to do, which is to distance itself from its old company and not draw a lot of attention to itself while doing so.

“It’s the kind of name that’s in one ear and out the other,” said Steven Manning, managing director for Igor, a well-known international naming and branding agency based in San Francisco. “It blends into the woodwork, which is just what the assignment was.”

Even the logo, a compass, is predictable, Manning noted.

Manning likened the move to Enron’s adopting Prisma Energy and Phillip Morris choosing Altria.

“It’s about breaking the association with AIG, like going into witness protection,” he said.

Chartis Insurance is using www.chartisinsurance.com for its Web site. Chartis Group uses chartis.com and chartisgroup.com.

Chartis Insurance, headquartered in New York, of course, has quite a head start on other companies picking a name. It includes the profitable AIG/AIU Commercial Insurance, Foreign General Insurance and Private Client Group operations. It had a combined statutory surplus of $32.1 billion worldwide at year-end 2008 and more than 40 million clients around the globe.

AIG/AIU hopes that the financially strong Chartis will be recognized for its success apart from the AIG name, which has been tainted by actions out of its London financial products unit that eventually resulted in a U.S. federal government bailout. The P/C units now being branded as Chartis did not get into trouble and did not require bailout funds.

A clarifying comment from Daniel regarding their position on Cali ammo sales:

Let me clarify our position a bit.

Right now, we are selling ammunition to California.

When the law takes effect in January 2011, we will cease ALL sales to California to any individual, agency, law enforcement or government body.

It’s not that we wouldn’t love to continue selling ammunition, but the restrictions placed on us by the new law would make it impossible. For example: one of the mandates of the new legislation requires us to obtain fingerprints from the purchaser for each and every purchase. This is, of course, impossible to accomplish for our phone sales or internet sales. Based on our reading of the legislation, all internet and phone sales of ammunition will be illegal.

Because of this, and various other restrictions this new law places on ammunition sales, Cheaper Than Dirt! has made the decision to cease all ammunition sales to any individual as well as all law enforcement agencies.

Well, that is why they’re in the game

Trijicon

Construction wise, it’s built like any other Trijicon ACOG is - rugged. The front portion of the ACOG is what looks to be an added component, but it dubbin’ around with it - it’s certainly far from fragile and looks to be fastened in a way that will allow the ACOG to uphold Trijicon’s reputation for bombproof glass. The dials are easy to reach and adjust. The fiber optic tube is standard - no cracks. The Larue Mount is as you’d imagine the soulmate for ACOG’s and this one’s no different.

Rifle Scopes

was looking at the GRSC CRS Rifle Scope myself and really like everything it offers! I don’t like that it’s a Millett with w/ a great reticule because of the Millett’s weight and less than stellar performance. Some of the things mentioned above (minus the ridiculous comparison to NCstar) including the fact that no more will be made in the foreseeable future, steered me away from it.

I’ve come across the new Burris Rifle Scopes XTR-14 and have decided on it. 1-4×24 illuminated horseshoe/dot 100-1000yds bdc calibrated for 5.56 62gr approx $550. I was very pleased with my Burris FFII for a $200 scope; FFII is their budget line while XTR is top of the line!
